ZhuaZho? Chinese Tradition?
I was told by my parents that when i was one year old, I participated in a chinese tradition in which a baby was placed in an empty room filled with objects (books, toys, food, pens, etc) that represented particular attributes; if the baby picked something, then those objects can foreshadow the baby’s personally and characteristic as an teen/adult. I picked a pen and my dad’s diploma.
Now i have to write about that particular incident. I know vaguely that it’s pronounced “ZhuaZho” as in Zhua= Grab, Zho= year(?). Can someone confirm the pinyin? Also, is there a romanticized english name for this tradition? And can someone provide more information about this event?
If it helps, I used to live in Chengdu, Sichuan. But i don’t’ think this was a regional event.
i know what your are talking about. im from china and lots of chinese parents do this. they put different things out there for you to grab and see what you are interested in. for example, if you grab a keyboard, then it means you might want to work in the computer area when you grow up. u dont necessarily have to work in that area when u grow up, its just for fun, to see what u think is interesting when you are little. i don’t know what its called, but i can ask my parents or something. i’ll give u the answer if i find out.
