Jade is a succulent and should be treated the same as you would a cactus. I would recommend planting it in cactus soil that can be purchased in the garden department of just about any department store. Succulents prefer to be planted in terracotta or unglazed ceramic pots as well because they drain and dry out faster. Water only when the soil is dry. I only water my cactus every couple of months or so and they are doing great. I would also occasionally water with a cactus fertilizer. Schultz makes a great liquid cactus/succulent fertilizer concentrate that can usually be found where the soil is found. Best of luck with the Jade plant!!! It was the first house plant that I ever planted as a child. I had it for years.
